Minnesota Finishes Eighth at B1G Indoor Championships

3/1/2025 6:02:00 PM | Women's Cross Country, Women's Track & Field

Minnesota scored 12 of their 38 team points on Saturday.

MINNEAPOLIS – The University of Minnesota women's track and field team finished eighth overall in the first Big Ten Indoor Championships with 17 teams. Held in Indianapolis, Ind., the Maroon and Gold scored 12 points on Saturday on the way to 38 total points at Fall Creek Pavilion.

Minnesota's top individual finisher on Saturday was Maja Maunsbach in the 60m hurdles. After making the 60m hurdles final for the third consecutive season, Maunsbach clocked an 8.17 to finish fifth overall and earn four points for the Maroon and Gold.

Now a seven-time conference scorer for the Gophers, Alliyah McNeil matched her season-best with a clearance of 1.80m (5-10 3/4) to finish sixth overall. The Jamaican was one of just two women to score both in the long jump and the high jump at Big Tens in 2025.

On the track it was true freshman Isabelle Schmitz who stole the show on Saturday. The Hutchinson, Minn., native put down a lifetime best 9:14.12 in the second of three sections of the 3000m to finish seventh overall. Schmitz's time goes down as the fourth-fastest in Minnesota history indoors and makes her the third different Gopher this year to enter the all-time program top 10 in the 3000m.

The Maroon and Gold had a trio of eighth-place finishers on day two of the Big Ten Indoor Championships. Erin Reidy's mile finish was the first with the graduate student finishing in a time of 4:44.12 in her final conference indoor meet of her career. Abigail Schaaffe managed to finish eighth twice on Saturday, once in the 600m (1:35.57) and then again in the 4x400m relay with teammates Dyandra Gray, Kitania Headley and Kendra Kelley (3:39.18).

Next up for the Maroon and Gold is the NCAA Indoor Championships, which are held in Virginia Beach, Va., from March 14-15. Declarations and qualifiers will be announced by the NCAA in the coming days.
