Minnesota Splits on Final Day of the Gopher Indoor Classic

GAME 1 | Minnesota 10, North Dakota State 1
MINNEAPOLIS, MN -- Senior Taylor Krapf racked up four RBIs to help lead the Minnesota Golden Gophers (9-9, 0-0 B1G) past the North Dakota State Bison (7-11, 0-0 Summit) 10-1 on Sunday.
Junior Presley Hosick (5-3) got the win for Minnesota. The right-hander went four shutout innings, giving up two hits. Freshman Natalie Susa also pitched well, going two innings, surrendering one run on one hit, walking one and striking out one.
Krapf went 2-for-3 with a double, a home run and a walk in addition to her four RBIs for the Gophers. Junior Breezy Burnett put together a standout performance at the dish as well, going 1-for-3 with a home run and three RBI. Freshman Tinley Easton also chipped in for Minnesota, putting together three hits in four trips to the plate while adding a triple and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Gophers got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the bottom of the first inning with the game still scoreless. Minnesota's offense started clicking and put up five runs, including a three-run home run off the bat of Burnett.
The Bison then gained ground, narrowing the lead to 5-1 until the Gophers expanded their advantage in the fifth. Junior Maggie Werner came across to score the lone run of the inning for Minnesota, which brought the score to 6-1 in favor of the 'U'.
Minnesota held North Dakota State without a run before expanding their lead to 10-1 the following inning. The Gophers bats heated up in the inning, scoring four runs, including a three-run home run off the bat of Krapf. The score remained 10-1 for the rest of the game, as Minnesota coasted to the win.

GAME 2 | St. Thomas (MN) 8, Minnesota 6
MINNEAPOLIS, MN --The Minnesota Golden Gophers (9-10, B1G) fell 8-6 in an eight-inning matchup to the St. Thomas (MN) Tommies (11-7, 0-0 Summit) Sunday.
Junior Sydney Schwartz (2-6) came out of the bullpen for Minnesota and took the loss. The right-hander went seven innings, giving up five runs, zero earned, on five hits, allowing three walks and striking out six.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 3-0, the Gophers first put runs on the board in the second inning. Minnesota pushed across two runs in the frame, the big blow coming on an RBI double from junior Breezy Burnett.
The 'U' kept the Tommies off the board before taking the lead in the fourth. Minnesota scored three runs, all of them coming on a three-run homer off the bat of Schwartz, scoring sophomore Lucy Hooper and freshman Jae Cosgriff, which brought the Gophers lead to 5-3.
Minnesota's lead had disappeared once the seventh inning came around and turned into a 6-5 St. Thomas (MN) advantage, when the Maroon and Gold tied up the game at six. The Gophers notched a run on senior Taylor Krapf's two-out solo home run off freshman Ava Kleinfeldt. St. Thomas (MN) then scored two times in the eighth to break the tie and grab the 8-6 win.

The 'U' will be back in action on Saturday March 8. They will be in Louisiana to take on South Alabama and LSU in the LSU Round Robin. First game is against South Alabama beginning at 1:00PM in Baton Rouge.
