The throwing duo have a combined five Big Ten titles in their careers.

MINNEAPOLIS – University of Minnesota throwers Anthonett Nabwe and Kostas Zaltos have been named the outdoor track and field Athletes to Watch by the Big Ten, the conference office announced on Thursday.

Nabwe returns to outdoor action after last season the then-redshirt freshman qualified for the shot put, discus and hammer throw at the NCAA West Regional. Nabwe, a three-time All-American, reached the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Championships in the shot put and was named an Honorable Mention All-American (17th overall). The Liberian national is coming off an indoor season where she won her second straight weight throw conference title with the No. 8 weight throw in NCAA history (24.22m | 79-5 1/2), according to USTFCCCA.

After taking an Olympic redshirt in 2024, Zaltos returns to the Golden Gophers for one final season in the men's hammer throw. The three-time Big Ten champion holds the No. 15 hammer throw all-time among college athletes at 76.33m (250-3), which he set at the 2023 NCAA Outdoor Championships where he finished with the silver medal. Zaltos, who hails from Kilikis, Greece, has earned three NCAA medals in the hammer throw in his college career, twice finishing with bronze and then silver in 2023. In 2024, Zaltos reached the European Championships final in the hammer throw and had a season-best throw of 75.81m (248-8).
