Berkland Homers Twice in Minnesota's 12-1 Victory Over High Point

MINNEAPOLIS- Junior Drew Berkland put together a stellar showing at the plate Friday, hitting two home runs to help lead the Minnesota Golden Gophers past the High Point Panthers 12-1.
Sophomore Cole Selvig (2-2) started on the mound and picked up the win for Minnesota (10-10). The right-hander went six innings, giving up one run on four hits, allowing one walk and striking out six. Sophomore Will Whelan also made an impact on the mound for the Golden Gophers, throwing three scoreless innings while allowing no hits, with no walks and four strikeouts.
Berkland went 3-for-5 at the plate, supplementing his two home runs with five RBIs. Senior Parker Knoll added to Berkland's awesome power-hitting performance by going 2-for-3 with a double, a home run and four RBI. Junior Jake Elbeery also helped out for the Golden Gophers, going 2-for-5 with a double, a home run and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Golden Gophers scored in six different innings on the way to the win. Minnesota broke a 0-0 tie and took the lead for good at 1-0 in the first inning The big hit for the Golden Gophers in the inning was a three-run home run off the bat of Berkland.
