MINNEAPOLIS - The Minnesota tennis team defeated Rutgers 4-0 at Baseline Tennis Center, improving its season record to 9-10.Â
The Golden Gophers earned their first Big Ten victory of the season, moving to 1-5 in conference play.
Quote from Coach Arterberry
"I'm super proud of how the girls showed up today," head coach Lois Arterberry said. "We practice all week for high-pressure moments and learned how to work through tough situations. Today, we had the opportunity to implement that, and we got the job done. Doubles was crucial, so we knew we had to start the match strong, and we did that by securing the doubles point. I'm really proud of how we came together as a team. Rutgers was a tough opponent, and we know Maryland will be another challenge, but we're prepared and ready to compete."
Key Moments
Minnesota secured the doubles point with two wins over Rutgers. At No. 1 doubles, Mia Liepert and Anali Kocevar earned their third straight Big Ten victory with a 6-1 win over Mai Nguyen and Naomi Karki. Jeselle Ante and Sofia Pinto then clinched the point for the Gophers with a 7-5 win over Jackeline Lopez and Karina Jumazhanova in the No. 2 spot.
