Gophers Set to Host Rutgers, Maryland

MINNEAPOLIS - The University of Minnesota tennis team will continue Big Ten play this weekend at Baseline Tennis Center as part of its 2025 conference schedule.
 
The Golden Gophers will host Rutgers (7-7) on Friday, March 28, at 4 p.m. CT, followed by a matchup against No. 74 Maryland (10-8) on Sunday, March 30, at noon.
 
The Season So Far
Minnesota opened the season 8-5 in non-conference play, highlighted by wins over No. 56 Iowa State, Missouri, and Boise State.

Mia Liepert, Aiva Schmitz, and Sofia Pinto led the Gophers during the non-conference schedule, each earning more than six wins.

Minnesota is 0-5 in Big Ten play, including two close 4-3 losses to No. 48 Illinois and No. 44 Northwestern.

This past weekend, the Gophers fell to No. 29 Iowa and No. 62 Nebraska. Mia Liepert stood out, going 2-0 in doubles with partner Anali Kocevar and 1-1 in singles, earning a win over Nebraska.

Scouting Rutgers
  • Minnesota and Rutgers have met 8 times since 2009. Rutgers has won the last two matchups, including a 4-3 victory in their most recent meeting on April 21, 2024. Minnesota last defeated Rutgers on April 1, 2022, with a 7-0 win.
  • The Scarlet Knights are led by Zuzanna Frankowska, who has a team-high 15 singles wins. She holds a 15-9 singles record with a notable win over Indiana.

  • Maryland was ranked as high as No. 69 on Feb. 20, and ranks at No. 74 currently.
Mia Magic
Sophomore Mia Liepert has won two of her last three matches in the No. 2 singles spot, earning victories over Illinois and Nebraska. She also went 2-0 last weekend in No. 1 doubles with partner Anali Kocevar against Iowa and Nebraska.

Liepert leads the team with 13 doubles wins this season, including victories over FGCU, Iowa State, UAB, Iowa, and Nebraska.

Five players have earned wins in Big Ten play so far: Aiva Schmitz (2), Mia Liepert (2) Sofia Pinto (1), Anali Kocevar (1), and Anlin Xie (1).
