Four-point weekend for the sophomore
ROSEMONT, Ill. - Oliver Moore's four points during the No. 3 Minnesota men's hockey team's series win at Penn State landed him B1G First Star of the Week honors, it was announced by the league office Tuesday. It's his first weekly accolade of the season, coming in the final week of the regular season, and second of his career.
Moore continued his strong play of late and was the driving force behind the Golden Gophers' offense versus the nationally-ranked Nittany Lions, helping the Maroon and Gold secure a B1G championship in the regular-season finale. The sophomore tallied four points over the weekend, picking up an assist Friday before a three-point night Saturday.
The Mounds View, Minn., native assisted on Minnesota's game-tying goal Friday that pushed the game into overtime. He extended his point streak to a season-long five games Saturday with the third, three-point effort of the season. Moore assisted on the first two Gophers' goals during the second period to give the team a lead before scoring an insurance goal in the final 30 seconds to seal the conference title. He also finished the weekend with a plus-3 rating and became the fourth player from the Maroon and Gold to reach the 30-point mark this year.
Moore also excelled at the faceoff dot where he won 20-of-35 draws, a 57.1 percent win percentage. He now has seven multi-point outings in 2024-25 and 16 for his college career with Minnesota winning all 16 of those contests.
The Gophers have had 12 star of the week awards during the campaign coming via eight different players. Moore joins Brody Lamb (Feb. 25, Dec. 3, Oct. 29), Jimmy Snuggerud (Feb. 4, Jan. 21, Nov. 12), Liam Souliere (Jan. 14), Nathan Airey (Dec. 10), Sam Rinzel (Oct. 29), Jimmy Clark (Oct. 22) and Connor Kurth (Oct. 15) as Minnesota players that have picked up B1G honors this season.
