MINNEAPOLIS -- The University of Minnesota men's track and field team begins its outdoor campaign on Saturday, March 8, in Tucson, Ariz. at Drachman Stadium at the Arizona Spring Break Fiesta. The meet will serve as the first official outdoor meet for the Maroon and Gold, who will compete in a variety of events both on the track and in the field.
ABOUT THE ARIZONA SPRING BREAK FIESTA
The early scheduled outdoor competition for the Maroon and Gold marks the third straight year the Golden Gophers have started the outdoor season in March. For Minnesota, this year's Arizona Spring Break Fiesta begins at 12 p.m. CT with the men's hammer. Live results will be available throughout the competition via Finished Results.
A 2024 MEN'S TRACK SEASON REWIND
Last season Minnesota's men claimed a total of four Big Ten event titles on their way to a seventh-place team finish. All four of those Big Ten champions return for the 2025 season, highlighted by All-Americans Angelos Mantzouranis, Charles Godfred and Devin Augustine.
At the NCAA Championships level last season the Maroon and Gold had three men qualify. Angelos Mantzouranis ended his true freshman campaign as an NCAA bronze medalist in the men's hammer throw while fellow freshman Charles Godfred was sixth in the men's long jump. Devin Augustine qualified for the first time as an individual, finishing as an honorable mention All-American in the 200m.
WHO'S BACK IN 2025?
Minnesota is excited to welcome back a number of high quality student-athletes to its men's roster in 2025. In total, 13 different Gopher men on this year's roster have at least qualified for one NCAA regional meet in their college careers.
The Maroon and Gold welcome back a total of 11 Big Ten Championships to its roster in 2025. Three-time Big Ten hammer throw champion Kostas Zaltos returns for his final college season while fellow Greek Angelos Mantzouranis looks to defend his own conference hammer throw title that he claimed during Zaltos' redshirt season in 2024.
Three-time Big Ten champion Kion Benjamin also returns for his final college season in Dinkytown. The Trinidad & Tobago native is a two-time 100m conference champion and also helped win the 4x100m relay at the 2023 Big Ten Outdoor Championships. Fellow Trinidad & Tobago sprinter, and 2024 Olympian, Devin Augustine returns to defend his own 100m conference crown that he won in 2024.
BROWN WINS CROATIAN INDOOR NATIONAL TITLE
University of Minnesota graduate student Spencer Brown won his first Croatian national title on Feb. 23, capturing the 60m hurdles championship on Sunday in Zagreb, Croatia. Additionally, the Maroon and Gold had a trio of participants at the USATF Indoor Championships at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, N.Y.
