Gophers Split Again to Finish LSU Round Robin

GAME 1 | Minnesota 6, South Alabama 5
BATON ROUGE, La. --The Minnesota Golden Gophers (11-11, 0-0 B1G) rallied from down 5-4 in the sixth inning to win in thrilling fashion, scoring two runs in the seventh to earn a 6-5 victory over the South Alabama Jaguars (11-14, 0-0 Sun Belt) Sunday.
Junior Presley Hosick (6-3) started in the circle and picked up the win for Minnesota. The right-hander went six innings, giving up five runs, three earned, on five hits, allowing five walks and striking out one. Junior Sydney Schwartz also made an impact in the circle for the Gophers, throwing one scoreless inning while allowing one hit.
Offensively, the Maroon and Gold were led by senior Taylor Krapf, who went 2-for-3 on the day with a home run, a walk and an RBI. Senior Margaret Tobias put together a noteworthy performance as well, going 3-for-4 with two RBI. Sophomore Jessa Snippes also helped out for Minnesota, putting together one hit in four trips to the plate while adding two RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Gophers were trailing 1-0 in the second inning when they first put runs on the board. Minnesota got an RBI single from Tobias, scoring freshman Tinley Easton from third base.
The Jaguars broke the tie and re-took the lead heading into the fourth inning, when the Gophers got back on the scoreboard. Minnesota brought home a pair, with one run driven in by Tobias' single, which brought the score to 3-2 in favor of the 'U'.
Minnesota's lead had evaporated once the fifth inning arrived and turned into a 4-3 South Alabama advantage, when the Gophers tied up the game at four. The Golden Gophers scored a run on Krapf's leadoff home run off junior T. Miller.
The Jaguars busted up the tie and took the lead heading into the seventh inning, when Minnesota got back on the scoreboard. The Gophers sent in two runs when a single from Snippes scored sophomore Lucy Hooper and senior Reili Gardner, bringing the Minnesota advantage to 6-5. The score remained 6-5 for the rest of the game, as the Maroon and Gold held on for the win.

GAME 2 | No. 4 LSU 10, Minnesota 2
BATON ROUGE, La. --Senior Taylor Krapf went 1-for-3 with a home run and an RBI for the Minnesota Golden Gophers (11-12, 0-0 B1G) in a 10-2 loss to the No. 4 LSU Tigers (23-1, 0-0 SEC) on Sunday.
Junior Sydney Schwartz (3-7) started and took the loss in the circle for Minnesota.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 7-0, the Gophers first put runs on the board in the fourth inning. Krapf put Minnesota on the board with a leadoff home run off junior Sydney Berzon.
The Maroon and Gold kept the deficit at 7-1 before closing the gap further in the fifth. Minnesota scored once on an RBI single off the bat of senior Kayla Chavez, which tightened the Tigers lead to 7-2. The ball game ended with that fifth inning rally falling short.
