Minnesota Men's Track and Field Ranked No. 3 in NCAA

The ranking is the second highest in men's program history.
MINNEAPOLIS -- The University of Minnesota men's track and field team opened the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) team rankings at the No. 3 spot, the organization announced on Tuesday morning. The No. 3 ranking for the Maroon and Gold men's squad is the second highest ranking in program history.
The only other time the men have been ranked higher in the current USTFCCCA ranking system was back in 2023 when the team opened the first outdoor rankings at No. 1. That season the Golden Gopher men finished the season ranked No. 20 and finished tied for 20th at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Additionally since 1921, according to the USTFCCCA, in the final national poll Minnesota has been ranked No. 3 twice (1932, 1947) and No. 1 once (1948).
The Golden Gophers have one individual ranked No. 1 in the NCAA this season, that being defending Big Ten long jump champion Charles Godfred (8.01m | 26-3 1/4). Additionally the men have six other events that rank in the top 10 nationally, led by the No. 2 ranking of Kostas Zaltos (Hammer - 76.85m | 25-2) and Isaiah Schafer (Shot Put - 19.53m | 64-1). The other top 10 ranked Gopher events are: 4x100m relay (Campbell, Benjamin, Charles, Augustine), Jak Urlacher (Pole Vault - 5.43m | 17-9 3/4), Angelos Mantzouranis (Hammer - 72.44m | 237-8) and Aaron Charles (200m | 20.66).
