'U' Claims Pair of Race Wins on Day One of B1G Invite

Both wins from Gophers' fours Friday afternoon
SARASOTA, Fla. - The University of Minnesota rowing team picked up race wins from its Third Varsity Four and First Varsity Four boats during Friday's afternoon session of the 2025 Big Ten Invitational at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota, Fla.
It was a sunny and warm start to the day for the Golden Gophers against a talented field of competition and the team turned in second-place and third-place finishes from their Third Varsity Four and First Varsity Four boats, respectively. The First Varsity Eight also placed third in the morning session.
The Maroon and Gold returned to action for the afternoon where it shined under the Florida sun. After the Second Novice Eight boat finished in third place during the first race of the session, a dominating performance from the Third Varsity Four followed. The crew led from start to finish and cruised to a winning time of 7:42.888 over UCLA, Wisconsin, and USC. Minnesota's Second Varsity Four continued the strong effort and battled to place third.
The Gophers secured their second win of the day, this time coming from the First Varsity Four, the reigning Big Ten Conference Boat of the Week. The crew got off to a fast start and pushed its way to an open-water victory in a time of 7:19.973, nearly six seconds ahead of USC. The Second Varsity Eight boat claimed a third-place result late in the evening of a packed day of rowing.
It's the fifth year of the Big Ten Invitational regatta and the fourth time being held at Nathan Benderson Park. The University of Michigan is serving as the host for the two days of racing.
