MINNEAPOLIS-Â Â Golden Gophers fall 8-5Â at the hands of the Maryland Terrapins on Saturday.
Sophomore Will Whelan (0-3) came out of the bullpen for Minnesota (22-26, ) and took the loss.
At the plate, the Golden Gophers were led by junior Drew Berkland, who went 2-for-4 on the day with a walk and an RBI. Sophomore Jack Spanier put together a noteworthy effort as well, going 1-for-4 with a double and a walk. Senior Jake Perry also chipped in for Minnesota, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding a walk and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Golden Gophers got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the bottom of the first inning with the game still scoreless. Minnesota scored twice, with one run coming across on Perry's single.
The Terrapins then rallied to score four runs and take a 4-2 lead before the Golden Gophers got back on the board in the fourth. which brought the Golden Gophers lead to 5-4. The Golden Gophers were unable to hold the lead, as Maryland scored four times over the remaining five innings to grab the 8-5 win.
