Neels Named Member of All-Big Ten Second Team, Spanier Named Sportsmanship Honoree

MINNEAPOLIS- Two members of the Golden Gopher baseball team were recognized by the Big Ten on Tuesday as conference award winners.
Junior catcher Weber Neels was named a member of the All-Big Ten second team, while sophomore Jack Spanier was the Gophers sportsmanship honoree.
A native of Cottage Grove, Minn., Neels led the team in home runs with 15, base on balls with 25, and hit by pitch with 18, which is a new Gopher season record. Weber also hit .284 on the season.
Behind the plate, Neels recorded 347 putouts and threw out 14 runners.
Spanier, a native of Cold Spring, Minn., was the team's go-to shortstop when healthy and his energy on the field played a key role this season. Jack hit .272 through 32 games with five doubles and 11 stolen bases.
