Minnesota Finishes 11th at ANNIKA Intercollegiate

LAKE ELMO, Minn. – The University of Minnesota women's golf team closed out competition at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate presented by 3M Wednesday. The Golden Gophers ended the event in 11th place. Minnesota posted a final team score of 10-over-par (298) during the final round and a 54-hole score of 906 in its first event of the fall season.
"We always enjoy playing in the ANNIKA," said head coach Matt Higgins. "It's a prestigious event and being able to play against some of the best teams in the country helps us see where we are early in the season. We're looking forward to getting some good practices this week."
Wake Forest was crowned tournament champion with a final score of 8-under-par (856) and South Carolina's Eila Galitsky captured the top individual spot at 9-under-par.
Notable:
Senior Isabella McCauley shot a 2-under-par 70 to lead Minnesota for the day and her 6-over-par total for the tournament earned a tie for 30th place. McCauley grabbed five birdies in the third round to end the fall opener.
Mariana Mesones closed out the competition with an even 72 in round three. The junior snagged five birdies and ended the event tied for 41st place with a total score of 10-over-par.
Senior Olivia Deakins closed out her debut in Maroon and Gold with a total score of 11-over-par. She shot a 6-over-par 78 to finish the tournament tied for 46th place. Sophomore Reese McCauley also grabbed a day three 78 to end the competition with a total score of 15-over-par and tied for 50th place.
Jordana Windhorst-Knudsen registered a total score of 19-over-par after tallying a round three 79 to come in tied for 56th.
Looking Ahead:
The team will be back in action Sept. 19-21 at the Lady Paladin Invitational at Furman University Golf Club in Greenville, S.C.
