The Golden Gophers return to action on Thursday to face Michigan State
IOWA CITY, IOWA - The University of Minnesota women's soccer team (5-3-1, 1-1-1 Big Ten) fell to No. 12 Iowa (7-1-2, 2-0-1 Big Ten) on Sunday afternoon on the road, 2-0.
Six Golden Gophers registered a shot, while goalkeeper Sarah Martin recorded four saves.
Minnesota took three shots in the first 45 minutes, compared to Iowa's five. Martin made a key save late in the half to keep the match scoreless at the break.
After a quiet start to the second half, Iowa broke through in the 71st minute. Elle Wildman sent a cross from the right side to Iba Oching, who found the back of the net to give the Hawkeyes a 1-0 lead.
In the 81st minute, Keegan Schmeiser fouled Iowa's Berkley Binggeli inside Minnesota's 18-yard box, setting up a penalty kick. Binggeli converted to double the Hawkeyes' lead.
The Gophers return to action Thursday at 7 p.m. CT, hosting Michigan State at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium.
