Gophers Return Home to Face Off Against St. Thomas and South Dakota State

MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. – The University of Minnesota swimming and diving programs return for their first home meet of 2026 this weekend to take on the University of St. Thomas Tommies and the South Dakota State University Jackrabbits.

Minnesota swimmers began 2026 in the Sunshine State with the women's program picking up a 186-76 victory over the University of Tampa Spartans and the men's program collecting a split with a 164-98 win over Tampa and a 117-145 loss to the University of Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
The Gophers closed out the tri-dual with 15 first place finishes over 28 total events. Katie McCarthy, Mina Kaljevic, Ava Yablonski, and Morgan Thomas led things on the women's side for the Gophers, picking up two individual event wins each. Jacob Johnson led things for the men, picking up two individual event wins as well.
Minnesota divers also shined in their 2026 debut in Boca Raton, sweeping the diving events against Florida Atlantic University, the University of North Texas, and Wagner College at the FAU Aquatics Center.
Drew Bennet led the way for the men, putting together a 375.85 performance to take the men's 1-meter. Bennett went on to win the men's 3-meter as well, collecting a score of 368.80. Vivi Del Angel led the way for the women in today's competition, picking up the first place finishes in both events with scores of 309.65 in the 1-meter and 339.85 in the 3-meter.
CSCAA Rankings
Minnesota women's swim and dive hit the final CSCAA rankings of 2025 at No. 23 in the nation. The first set of rankings for the new year are currently set to release on January 23.

The Gophers will close out the month on the road with a Big Ten tri-dual against Northwestern University and Purdue University. Action against the Wildcats and the Boilermakers is set to kick off in Evanston, Illinois, at 5:00 PM on Friday, Jan. 30.
