SEATTLE - Mara Braun, Amaya Battle and Grace Grocholski combined to score 41 of Minnesota's 54 total points, but the Golden Gophers (12-6, 3-4 Big Ten) fell to the Washington Huskies (14-4, 4-3 Big Ten) 67-54 on the road Sunday.

Braun led the Gophers with 18 points and six rebounds. Battle tacked on 12 points and two steals and Grocholski chipped in as well with 11 points and seven rebounds.

Minnesota forced 13 Washington turnovers. The Gophers turned those takeaways into five points on the other end of the floor. Battle's two steals led the way for Minnesota.

How It Happened

After jumping out to a 12-10 advantage, Minnesota went on a 5-0 run with 2:19 left in the first quarter, culminating in a three from Braun, to increase its lead to 17-10. The Gophers then lost some of that lead, but still entered the quarter break with a 17-13 advantage. Minnesota relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down three shots to account for nine of its 17 points.

The Gophers could not maintain their lead in the second quarter and entered halftime trailing 30-27.

Washington continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 45-36 advantage before Minnesota went on a 5-0 run, punctuated by a three from Grocholski, to trim its deficit to 45-41 with 4:17 to go in the third. Washington countered and stretched its lead to 56-44 heading into the fourth.

Washington kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing a 63-46 advantage before Minnesota went on a 5-0 run, finished off by Battle's jumper, to shrink the deficit to 63-51 with 1:57 to go in the contest. Washington responded and outscored the Gophers the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 67-54. Minnesota fired away from deep in the quarter, knocking down two shots to account for six of its 10 points.
