Gophers Drop Series Finale to Ohio State

2/14/2026 4:45:00 PM | Women's Hockey

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 3-ranked University of Minnesota women's hockey team fell 3-1 to the No. 2 Ohio State on Saturday afternoon, as the Buckeyes used two second-period goals to complete the weekend sweep.

After a tightly contested start, Minnesota capitalized on a five-on-three power play midway through the opening frame. Sydney Morrow found Chloe Primerano at the left point, and the sophomore defender fired a shot through net-front traffic to give the Gophers a 1-0 lead at 12:09.

Ohio State answered just over two minutes later to send the game into the first intermission tied.

The second period remained even early, with shots knotted at 2-2 through the first 10 minutes. Minnesota generated four shots on a power play opportunity but was unable to convert. The Buckeyes broke through on an odd-man rush with just over four minutes remaining and added a power-play tally in the final seconds of the frame to take a 3-1 advantage into the third.

Minnesota pressed in the final period, outshooting Ohio State 9-7, but could not close the gap.

With the result, Minnesota moves to 24-7-1 overall and 18-7-1 in Western Collegiate Hockey Association play. Ohio State improves to 28-4-0 overall and 22-4-0 in conference action.

Quotable
"Obivously, we're disappointed with the outcome ," said head coach Brad Frost. "It's frustrating not coming out of here with some points, but at the same time we're very proud of our group. We had a depleted lineup again and a tough break getting a  minute [major penalty] called on us late in the second period. We went back out in the third, killed the rest of that off, and mounted some offense, but we just couldn't find the back of the net here today."

Notable
- Primerano netted her ninth goal of the season.
- Morrow recorded her 23rd assist of the year.
- The Gophers were swept in a road series for the first time since Feb. 8-9, 2025 against Wisconsin.
