Gophers Host Bell Bank “Pay It Forward” Collegiate in Arizona

LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. - The University of Minnesota men's golf team hosts the Bell Bank "Pay It Forward" Collegiate Mar. 23-24 at the Wigwam Golf Club. The first round will commence around 9:30 a.m. CT Monday, followed immediately by the second round. The final round will begin at 9:00 a.m. CT on Tuesday morning.
The Golden Gophers are coming off their second-straight, top-three performance at The Johnnie-O (Mar. 9-10) with a season-best team score of 39-under-par. This was the first time since 2021 that the team placed in the top three in back-to-back tournaments, accomplishing this feat during the Boilermaker Invitational (Apr. 10-11, 2021) and the Git R Done Husker Invitational (Apr. 17-18, 2021).
Sophomore Chun-Ta Wu tied for first place among the field with a career-best score of 18-under-par (198). This tied the lowest 54-hole score by a Gopher since 1994-95, matching Ben Warian's performance at the High Meadows Intercollegiate (Apr. 15-16, 2024). Wu earned a share of the B1G Golfer of the Week honor, splitting with Rudy Sautron of Nebraska.
All Gophers shot even or better during the two-day tournament. Freshman Torger Ohe carded his season-best score of 9-under-par (207), tying for 12th place. Senior Cormac Sharpe recorded his season-low score of 6-under-par (210), collecting 12 birdies through 54 holes of golf. Freshman Joe Honsa penciled a score of 5-under-par (211) for the second time this season. Senior Jack Wetzel shot even with 12 birdies.

Seventeen teams will compete over the next two days. Minnesota is one of four Big Ten Conference teams participating, including Maryland, Nebraska, and Wisconsin. Other teams include Arkansas State, Bethel, Denver, Drake, Iowa State, Marquette, Kansas City, North Dakota, North Dakota State, Oral Roberts, St. Thomas, Texas at San Antonio, and Utah State.
Gophers' Lineup:
Wu, sophomore Jack Crousore, Honsa, Ohe, and Sharpe will participate in team competition over the next two days. Wetzel and sophomore Ryan Stendahl will participate as individuals.
