Minnesota Earns 5th-Place Finish in Bell Bank “Pay it Forward” Collegiate

Isabella McCauley leads Maroon and Gold with top-10 finish
LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. – The University of Minnesota women's golf team ended play at the Bell Bank "Pay it Forward" Collegiate in fifth place Tuesday. The Golden Gophers carded a team score of 284-288-284—856 (+4) at the Wigwam Golf Club.
It's always good to see us move up the leaderboard," said head coach Matt Higgins after the Gophers moved up three spots to end in fifth place.
Isabella McCauley led the Golden Gophers with a 4-under-par finish, carding a score of 67 (-4) in the third round thanks to five birdies. The senior totaled a 209 (-4) to earn a top-10 finish in seventh place among the field.
"Great tournament by Bella. Things were really clicking for her today. Looking forward to finally getting on some grass when we get back home and getting some good practice in for our next tournament," said Higgins after McCauley closed out play 4-under-par.
South Florida claimed a first-place team finish with a final score of 272-278-276—826 (-26). They held a 10-shot margin over second place Florida Gulf Coast. USF's Regina Plascencia came in first place after shooting 3-under-par in the third round to post a total score of 206 (-9) and a one-shot victory.
Notable:
After official review, Luisamariana Mesones' round one score will be counted. She carded a 3-under-par 68 with six birdies after 18 holes to begin the tournament. The junior finished in 15th place with a 1-under-par third round score of 70. She carded Minnesota's most birdies through three rounds with sixteen.
Olivia Deakins shot a 72 (+1) to round out the final day of competition. With a total score of 220 (+7), the senior moved up eight places to end in 42nd.
Senior Madison Le carded a 77 (+6) in the third round, ending the 54-hole event in 51st place. She closed out the two-day tournament with a total score of 224 (+11).
Reese McCauley finished in 43rd behind her teammate after carding a 75 (+4) during her third round. The sophomore closed out the competition with a total score of 221 (+8).
Freshman Lauryn Finley placed 36th overall as an individual. She carded a 4-over-par 75 in the third round after meeting par ten times.
Looking Ahead:
The Gophers will be back on the course April 12-13 at the Ackerman-Allen Golf Course in West Lafayette, Ind., for the Boilermaker Spring Classic.
