McCauley Wins Boilermaker Spring Classic

‘U’ Finishes in 5th Place Monday

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The University of Minnesota women's golf team closed out play at the Boilermaker Spring Classic in fifth place Monday. The Golden Gophers carded a team score of 306-294-300—900 (+36) at the Ackerman-Allen Golf Course. 

"It has been a great way to go into the postseason," said head coach Matt Higgins after the Golden Gophers secured a fifth place finish as a team.

Isabella McCauley led Minnesota with a 4-under-par finish for the second tournament in a row. She carded a score of 72 (E) in the third round to finish as the tournament's medalist. The senior secured her first win of the season with a total score of 72-68-72—212 (-4).

"So happy for Bella. She's put in a lot of work this spring for her to win her last regular season collegiate tournament is something special," said Higgins after McCauley's first place performance. 

Junior Luisamariana Mesones earned a fifth place finish after closing out the event 1-over-par. The Trujillo, Peru, native had three birdies in the third round to give her a final tournament score of 217 (+1). 

"Mar had another great tournament and continued her awesome spring season," Higgins said after Mesones carded a 74 (+2) in the final round.

Illinois claimed a first-place team finish with a final score of 286-296-288—870 (+6). The Illini held a 3-shot margin over second place Purdue.

Notable: 
Senior Olivia Deakins shot a 79 (+7) to round out the final day of competition. She finished the tournament 21-over-par, ending the 54-hole event in 65th place. 

Freshman Lauryn Finley placed 67th overall with a third round score of 79 (+7). She finished the tournament 2-over-par, with three birdies in the third round. 

Reese McCauley carded a final tournament score of 83-83-75—241 (+25). The sophomore closed out the two-day tournament by moving up eight places to be in 80th. 

Individual Jordana Windhorst-Knudsen finished play in 61st place after moving up two spots in the finale. The sophomore carded a 77 (+5) in the third round. 

Looking Ahead:
The Gophers will be back to competition April 24-25 at Oakmont Country Club in Glendale, Calif., for the Big Ten Conference Championship.
