MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. – University of Minnesota right hander Brandon Jaenke has been named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association's (NCBWA) Midseason Stopper of the Year award watchlist, as announced this afternoon.
The NCBWA Stopper of the Year award was introduced in the 2005 season to honor the nation's top relief pitcher. Jaenke is one of 18 relief pitchers throughout the nation that were also named in the preseason watchlist, announced in February. Finalists for the Stopper of the Year award are set to be announced in June.
Jaenke has had a standout year with the Golden Gophers, posting a 2.29 ERA and a 1-2 win-loss record over 16 appearances. Jaenke currently leads the team in saves with three, while tallying 26 strikeouts and holding opponents to a .164 batting average over 21.2 innings of work.
The Gophers return to Siebert Field this weekend for a three game stretch against the Northwestern Wildcats. All the action is set to kick off with game one on Friday, Apr. 24, at 5:30 PM.
