MINNESOTA'S HISTORY AT NCAAs
The University of Minnesota is sending nine or more event entries to the outdoor NCAA Championships for the sixth straight season. The Maroon and Gold's last outdoor individual championship came in 2025 with Kostas Zaltos capturing a title in the men's hammer throw in Eugene, Ore. Additionally his teammate, and current Gopher Angelos Mantzouranis, earned a silver medal in the same event with the duo becoming the first teammates to go 1-2 in the NCAA Championships hammer throw since 2011 (Virginia Tech).
The men have won a total of 11 NCAA individual outdoor championships while the women are still searching for their first outdoor individual title. The last time the women won an individual title indoors was just three months ago in Fayetteville, Ark., when Anthonett Nabwe captured the indoor weight throw championship. Minnesota's highest team finish on the men's side was first in 1948, but in 2025 the team finished seventh overall for the highest finish in program history in 77 years.
TOP CONTENDERS FOR THE MAROON AND GOLD MEN
The Maroon and Gold bring six events entries to the NCAA Outdoor Championships that enter the meet inside the nation's top 11 performances this season. Of those six both Angelos Mantzouranis (hammer throw) and the men's 4x100m relay team hold the highest individual ranking at No. 4. Mantzouranis has a season best of 75.98m (249-3) in the men's hammer throw while teammate Anthony Barmes' 72.66m (238-5) is the eighth-best throw in the NCAA this year.
Charles Godfred enters his third straight NCAA Championships in the long jump with the fifth-best mark of the 2026 campaign at 8.08m (26-6 1/4). Godfred is also a member of the men's 4x100m relay team that is looking to make its second straight NCAA Championships final after reaching it for the first time in program history in 2025.
Both John Caleb and Aaron Charles enter their first individual NCAA Championships ranked No. 11 in the country in their respective events. Caleb, a true freshman, holds a lifetime best time of 10.00 (+2.0 m/s) which is the 11th-fastest in the NCAA this year while Aaron Charles' 20.15 is also No. 11 nationally.
GOPHER WOMEN TO WATCH AT NCAAs

Anthonett Nabwe owns two of those performances this year with the No. 1 hammer throw mark of 77.64m (254-9) and her No. 8 shot put toss of 18.00m (59-0 3/4). Nabwe's teammate Hadley Streit is also No. 3 nationally this year in the hammer throw with her 71.98m (236-2) at the Tom Jones Memorial.

Minnesota's women also enter the NCAA Championships ranked, coming in at No. 23 after the NCAA Championships First Rounds in Fayetteville.
BIG TEN CHAMP NABWE ON FOURTH STRAIGHT 'THE BOWERMAN' WATCH LIST
University of Minnesota women's track and field redshirt junior Anthonett Nabwe was recognized as one of 10 student-athletes on the Women's 2026 Update No. 6 Watch List for The Bowerman, as announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on June 3. The appearance on The Bowerman Watch List is Nabwe's fourth straight after appearing on it for the first time on March 25.
The award considers athletes' performances during the NCAA indoor track & field and outdoor track & field seasons with the performance window running from December 1 of the preceding year through the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in the year in which the award is given. Nabwe's most recent accomplishments include reaching the 2026 NCAA Outdoor Championships in both the hammer throw and the shot put. Nabwe earned her first career NCAA Championships ticket in the hammer throw with her 67.89m (222-9) in Fayetteville while her 17.09m (56-1) booked her second career outdoor NCAAs bid in the shot put.
