Sean Moore joined the Gopher baseball staff as an assistant coach in June 2024.
In his first season at Minnesota in 2025, Moore helped guide the Gophers to 96 stolen bases, the second-highest total in the Big Ten Conference. Minnesota finished the season 24-28 overall and 10-20 in conference play.
During the 2026 season, Moore led the Gophers to a conference leading 106 stolen bases, their most since tallying 121 in the 1994 season. Minnesota also finished their 30-23 overall season tied for fourth throughout the Big Ten in fielding percentage, collecting their highest FLD% of .980 since 2016 with their least amount of errors committed since 1972.
Moore arrived at Minnesota after one season at the University of Iowa, where he helped the Hawkeyes post a 31-23 overall record and a fourth-place Big Ten finish in 2024. Under his guidance, Iowa ranked among the conference leaders in batting average (.301, 3rd), on-base percentage (.410, 1st), triples (16, 2nd) and runs scored (443, 3rd).
Before returning to Iowa, Moore spent five seasons on the Penn State staff, serving four years as an assistant coach and one as director of operations/player development. During his tenure, the Nittany Lions showed steady offensive improvement in runs per game, home runs, RBIs and on-base percentage. He coached four All-Big Ten selections, three All-Big Ten Freshman Team honorees and helped develop three MLB Draft picks.
Moore previously served as a volunteer assistant at Iowa from 2017-18, helping the Hawkeyes capture the first Big Ten Tournament title in program history and reach the 2017 NCAA Houston Regional. During that stretch, he coached nine All-Big Ten selections, including Big Ten Player of the Year Jake Adams, whose 29 home runs set Iowa and Big Ten single-season records. He also helped nine players earn MLB Draft selections.
A Coralville, Iowa, native, Moore played collegiately at DMACC, Wichita State and Iowa. He helped DMACC reach the 2011 NJCAA World Series and earned All-Region XI honors in 2012 before finishing his career with the Hawkeyes in 2015. That season, Iowa won 41 games and advanced to NCAA Regional play for the first time since 1990.
Moore also served as director of baseball operations at Diamond Dreams Sports Academy, focusing on swing biomechanics and player development. He earned his degree in leisure studies from Iowa in 2015 and is a graduate of Iowa City West High School.
