Football Digital Content Manager

Derek Schmidt rejoined the University of Minnesota football program in January 2020 and serves as the Football Digital Content Manager. He produces, oversees and manages the content collection, creation and production of all external football video content.

Schmidt, who was previously the Assistant Director of Football Video at Minnesota, joined the Gophers after a stint at TCU where he served as the Assistant Director of Athletics Video Production since August 2018.

Schmidt was in TCU's Digital Brand Strategy department and worked primarily with men's basketball as a full-time content creator. He also traveled with the volleyball and baseball teams and played a integral role in establishing standards for the department.

Prior to his time at TCU, Schmidt worked at Minnesota from March 2017 - August 2018 in the football video department and was responsible for all internal creative football video.

Schmidt earned his degree from TCU in 2016 and was a video graduate assistant and student videographer with the Horned Frogs. He spent four seasons working with the football team and oversaw an on-field team of videographers who captured content and created weekly motivational videos. He also worked closely with TCU's social media department in an effort to develop engaging content.

Schmidt got his start in sports as a game day intern with the Fort Worth Cats Baseball team and was also an intern for two seasons with the Fort Worth Vaqueros Soccer Club.
