Desmond Morgan

Desmond Morgan joined the University of Minnesota staff in March 2019 and is the team’s Special Teams Quality Control. He comes to the Gophers from Maryland where he worked two seasons as a defensive graduate assistant.
Prior to his time at Maryland, he was graduate assistant coach at Wayne State University where he worked primarily with the offensive line and help with day-to-day operations.
Morgan played football at Michigan as was a four-year letterman at linebacker. He played in 47 career games and made 40 career starts. The Holland, Mich. native was a two-time semifinalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy, given to the top football scholar-athlete in the nation.
In 2015, Morgan earned Defensive All-Big Ten Honorable Mention accolades as a senior and received the team’s Roger Zatkoff Award, given to Michigan’s best linebacker.
A three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree, Morgan was also voted to the 2015 CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team. In addition, he was a National Football Hall of Fame and College Football Hall of Fame Scholar Athlete.
Morgan graduated from West Ottawa High School in 2011 and was selected as The Holland Sentinel Defensive Player of the Year in 2010. He recorded 72 tackles as a senior and forced four fumbles despite missing time due to injury. Morgan was also the team's quarterback and passed for 519 yards and five touchdowns, while running for 802 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2011 as a senior.
Morgan graduated from Michigan in December of 2015 with a bachelor's degree in secondary education.
