Matt Dovenberg joined the University of Minnesota staff prior to the 2016 season and serves as the Special Teams Quality Control assistant. 

Dovenberg is a 2014 graduate of the University of Minnesota and has a degree in sport management. While a student at Minnesota, he worked as a video assistant for two year with the football program. He then worked as a student volunteer with the coaching staff and spent time with the tight ends and helped with opponent film breakdown and scouting reports. 

After graduation, Dovenberg spent two years at Concordia University in St. Paul, Minn., and was the wide receivers coach and graduate assistant for the team. In 2015, he coached receiver Alquawn Vickers, who earned the NSIC Newcomer of the Year Award and was named to Don Hansen All-America Third Team All-Purpose. Dovenberg was also in charge of the kickoff return unit, which scored three touchdowns and averaged 23.63 yards per return. While at Concordia he received his Master's degree in Sport Management. 

Dovenberg is from Decorah, Iowa, and has an older brother (Mike) and is one of three triplets along with sisters Kate and Liz.
