HIGH SCHOOL: Attended Southfield High School, where he was a three-year starter • recorded 79 tackles and six pass breakups as a senior • caught the winning touchdown pass in the Blue Jays’ Division 2 regional championship • named to the AP Division 1-2 All-State First Team and Detroit Free Press Dream Team • two-time All-Oakland Activities Association Team selection • coached by Tim Conley • also lettered in track • rated a four-star recruit by Rivals, while 247Sports, ESPN and Scout gave him three stars • Rivals had him as the No. 20 safety in his class, while Scout had him 36th, 247Sports 84th and ESPN 89th • Scout rated him Michigan’s top safety • listed as Michigan’s No. 5 recruit by Rivals, while ESPN had him at No. 14 and 247Sports at No. 17.
