Team captain during the 2018-19 season • recorded 85 points (42 goals, 43 assists) in 148 career games at Minnesota • helped the Gophers win two-straight Big Ten regular-season championships in 2016 and 2017 • played in 94-straight games to end his career, missed just one game in the last 115 contests of his career with an illness as a sophomore • four-year letter winner • three-time Academic All-Big Ten • Big Ten Distinguished Scholar (2019) • Big Ten Sportsmanship Award honoree (2019).

2018-19 | SENIOR SEASON
Team captain • skated in all 38 games as a senior for the Maroon & Gold • improved his offensive production for the third year in a row, closing out his career with a career-high 31 points (13 goals, 18 assists) • three of his four career three-point games came in his final year with the program • Minnesota's top man on the draw, winning .632 of his faceoffs (74 of 117) • set a new career-long point streak at six games • Academic All-Big Ten • Big Ten Distinguished Scholar • earned fourth letter. 

2017-18 | JUNIOR SEASON
Skated in all 38 games for the Maroon & Gold as a junior • recorded 26 points (12 goals, 14 assists), setting new career single-season highs for points and assists • tied for the team lead with 12 goals • team was 14-5-1 when he notched a point • recorded six multi-point games • recorded three game-winning goals for a new single-season career high while factoring into five total game-winning goals • matched his career best point streak at four twice during the season and also matched his career career best goal streak at three • Academic All-Big Ten • earned third letter. 

2016-2017 | SOPHOMORE SEASON
Appeared in 37 games during his second collegiate season • recorded new career highs for games (37), points (21), goals (14), assists (seven), power-play goals (seven) and game-winning goals (two) • his seven power-play goals represented the fourth-largest total in the Big Ten • scored the game-winner against Michigan State on Dec. 10, 2016 • tallied his first career hat trick against Mercyhurst in the Mariucci Classic on Dec. 30, 2016, earning Big Ten Third Star of the Week • enjoyed a season-high four-game point streak from Jan. 20-28, including a two-goal game against Minnesota Duluth on Jan. 27, 2017 • Academic All-Big Ten • earned his second letter. 

2015-2016 | FRESHMAN SEASON
Skated in 35 games during his rookie season with seven points (three goals, four assists) • made his Gophers debut in the season opener against Vermont on Oct. 10, 2015 • notched his first collegiate point with a goal against Minnesota Duluth on Oct. 16, 2015 • tallied his first multi-point game with two goals against Penn State on Jan. 8, 2016 • earned first letter. 

JUNIORS
Played two seasons with the Green Bay Gamblers in the USHL • totaled 85 career games in the USHL with 42 points (21 goals, 21 assists) • skated in 33 regular-season games during the 2014-15 season with 27 points (10 goals, 17 assists) • tallied 15 points (11 goals, four assists) in 50 games during the 2013-14 regular season and skated in an additional two playoff games.

INTERNATIONAL
Helped the U.S. Under-17 Select Team go undefeated to win the 2013 Under-17 Five Nations Tournament in Trnava, Slovakia • also helped the U.S. Under-18 Select Team to a bronze medal at the 2014 Ivan Hlinka Tournament in Breclav, Czech Republic and Piestany, Slovakia.

Native of Grand Rapids, Mich. • son of Brent Gates Sr. and Tiffannie Gates • father played baseball at the University of Minnesota and was the 1991 Big Ten Player of the Year and a First Team All-American before a seven-year career in Major League Baseball • mother played volleyball at Arizona State and was a high school All-American • has four siblings, Taylor, Maddy, Jordyn, Brady • skated at the 2014 CCM/USA Hockey All-American Prospects Game in Buffalo, N.Y., • skated at the 2015 USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game in Dubuque, Iowa • selected in the third round (80th overall) by the Anaheim Ducks in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft • also played baseball at Grand Rapids Christian High School (Mich.) and won back-to-back state titles in 2012 and 2013 while playing for his father.
