Cole Konrad finished his career as one of the most decorated wrestlers to wear the Maroon and Gold singlet. Konrad got started early in his career with a fourth place finish at his first NCAA Championships. That was the lowest he would ever finish.
Konrad found himself in the NCAA Finals for the next three seasons including NCAA Championships in his final two seasons. In addition to his two titles, Konrad was a three-time Big Ten Champion and the 2006-07 Jesse Owens Male Athlete of the Year as awarded by the Big Ten Conference. While still in college, Konrad won gold at the 2005 Pan-Am Championships.
He retired Minnesota's fifth four-time All-American his name scattered across the Gophers record books. His 155 career victories is second in the record books with his 0.922 winning percentage sits third all-time. Of those 155 victories, 70 came in dual competition and 50 came by fall, both top-five in the Gophers records. Konrad finished his career on a 76-match winning streak that still stands as a school record.
After hanging up the singlet, Konrad worked as an administrative assistant in the Gophers offices for years after. Konrad also pursued a MMA career where he went 9-0 with a Bellator Heavyweight Championship before retiring from combat sports. Konrad remains in the Twin Cities area as an agricultural commodities broker.
