2017-18 Senior Season: At the NCAA Championships, swam with the 400 Medley Relay that placed eighteenth (3:07.03) and the 200 Medley team that placed fourteenth (1:24.89) earning All-American honorable mention. Finished sixth in the 100-yard breast, breaking a school record with an All-American time of 51.48 and took fourth in the 200-yard breast (1:52.00) earning All-American honors. • At the Big Ten Championships, swam with the 200 Medley Relay that took second (1:24.25), the 400 Medley Relay that took second (3:06.90), placed third in the 100-yard breast (51.68) and second in the 200-yard breast (1:51.41). • finished second in the 100-yard breast (54.89), third in the 200 IM (1:51.16), and second in the 200-yard breast (1:57.92) at the Triple Dual vs. Northwestern and Purdue • took first place in the 100-yard breast (55.39) and first place in the 200-yard breast (1:59.46) vs. Denver • finished first in the 100-yard breast (56.27) and first in the 200-yrd breast (2:01.80) vs. Hawai'i and Drury • had three first place finishes in the 200 IM (1:47.39), 100-yard breast (52.84), and the 200-yard breast (1:54.12) at the Minnesota Invitational. • placed seventh in the 200 IM (1:50.62), first in the 200-yard breast (1:56.79), and first in the 100-yard breast (54.47) at the Quad Dual vs. Michigan, Penn State, and Wisconsin. • took first in the 100-yard breast (54.74), first in the 200-yard breast (1:57.13), and second in the 200 IM (1:51.12) against Iowa. • finished first in the 100-yard breast (55.92), first in the 200-yard breast (1:59.86), and sixth in the 200 IM (1:54.49) vs. Florida State.

2016-17 Junior Season: CSCAA All-America - Honorable Mention • Academic All-Big Ten • Team MVP • improved in the 100-yard breast (52.44) and 200-yard breast (1:53.61) at the Big Ten Championships • improved to 52.30 in the 100-yard breast, a school record, at the NCAA Championships • earned first place in the 200-yard breast against Wisconsin with a 1:57.50 • earned fourth place in the 200-yard breast with a 1:56.34 at the Big Ten vs. USA Challenge • earned third place in the 200-yard breast with a 1:54.85 at the AT&T Winter Championships.

2015-16 Sophomore Season: Named Academic All-Big Ten • named Most Improved by teammates • at the 2016 NCAA Championships, McHugh finished 22nd in the 100 breast, 26th in the 200 breast and was named Honorable Mention All-American in the 200 medley relay with teammates Turner, Fair and Becker • recorded two Minnesota school records at the 2016 Big Ten Championships where he finished 3rd in the 200 breast, 9th in the 100 breast, 5th in the 200 medley relay, 6th in the 400 medley relay and 30th in the 200 IM • tallied 17 top-five finishes during the regular season • swept the 100 breast and 200 breast for Minnesota at the Big Ten Triple Duals • swept men’s breast at the 2015 Jean K. Freeman Invite • advanced to finals at the 2015 Arena Pro Swim Series at Minneapolis in the 100-meter breast and 200 breast • swept men’s breaststroke competition at Wisconsin.  

2014-15 Freshman Season: First-year letterwinner • at the 2015 Big Ten Championships McHugh scored 29.5 points • finished 9th in the 100 breast, 10th in the 200 breast, 62nd in the 50 free, 4th in the 200 medley relay and 7th in the 400 medley relay (2/25-2/28) • placed 15th in the 100 fly and 18th in the 100 back at the 2015 Minnesota Challenge (2/7) • finished 2nd in the 100 breast and 3rd in the 200 breast against Northwestern and Purdue (1/30-1/31) • took 1st in the 200 breast and 2nd in the 100 breast at N.C. State (1/23-1/24) • finished 1st in the 200 breast and 2nd in the 100 breast at Hawaii (1/7) • at the 2014 Jean K. Freeman Invite, McHugh finished 2nd in the 200 IM, 12th in the 200 free, 22nd in the 100 free and 33rd in the 100 fly (12/5-12/6) • during the 2014 Arena Grand Prix at Minneapolis he placed 9th in the 100 breast, 10th in the 200 breast and 27th in the 200 IM (11/20-11/22) • finished 4th in both the 100 breast and 200 breast at Florida (11/8) • took 2nd in both the 100 breast and 200 breast, and also finished 7th in the 100 free against Iowa (10/31) • finished 1st in the 50 breast vs. North Dakota (10/24) • took 2nd in the 100 breast and 3rd in the 200 breast against Wisconsin (10/17) • made his collegiate debut at Arizona State where he finished 1st in the 100 breast and 2nd in the 200 breast (10/4).

High School: Number one male swimming recruit from state of Wisconsin • a 2014 graduate of Sevastopol High School • coached by father, Mike McHugh at Door Country YMCA • six-time YMCA National Champion • holds Wisconsin breaststroke records in 15-16 and 17-18 age groups • member of National Honor Society
