Gophers Secure Two More First Place Finishes to Close Out 2025 Minnesota Invite

MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. – The University of Minnesota swimming and diving programs officially bookended the 2025 Minnesota Invite on Saturday evening, closing out the final day of competition with two event wins and multiple top three finishes.
The final day of competition saw the season premiere of the 1650 free for the Gophers. Katie McCarthy picked up her NCAA cut with a time of 16:14.02, good enough for third overall in the event. Luke Brennan led the Gophers in the men's 1650, placing ninth with a time of 15:21.48.
Mira Keller picked up the sixth place finish in the first 'A' final of the night, tallying a time of 1:57.62 in the women's 200 back. Alberto Hernandez led the Gophers in the men's race, earning a 1:43.74 for the fourth place finish.
Mina Kaljevic placed fifth in the 'A' finals of the 100 free with a time of 49.26. Davide Harabagiu led Minnesota on the men's side with a 44.09 for 20th overall.
Grace Drabot and Joe Polyak both secured a fourth place finish in their 200 breaststroke races with Drabot tallying a 2:13.63 and Polyak tallying a 1:56.88.
After hitting the NCAA qualifying mark in his prelim race, Jacob Johnson topped the charts in the men's 200 fly 'A' final and took home the gold with a 1:41.10. Rachel Conley led the Gophers in the women's race, placing ninth with a time of 1:58.85.
A lineup of Mina Kaljevic, Livi Wanner, Anja Kaljevic, and Ava Yablonski slotted in a third place finish in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:18.78. Harabagiu, Ian Steffen, Jayden Edmonson, and Johnson turned in a time of 2:56.15 to finish in fifth place.
Platform diving made its season premiere over in the diving well this afternoon, with Drew Bennett taking home the first place finish and the NCAA Zone Diving cut with a 399.40. Annalei Dow led women's platform diving for the Gophers, taking home a second place finish with a score of 251.00.
Minnesota will return to the pool following the holiday break, taking a trip to the Sunshine State where the women's swimming program will take on the University of Tampa in a dual meet and the men's swimming program will face off against Tampa and the University of Notre Dame in a tri-dual meet. That action is currently set for Saturday, Jan. 3, at 10:00 AM.
