2016-17 Senior Season:  Academic All-Big Ten - earned a 55.26 in the 100-yard breast at the 2017 Big Ten Championships - finished with a 1:59.02 in the 200-yard breast at the 2017 Big Ten Championships - earned a 1:50.34 in the 200-yard IM at the 2017 Big Ten Championships - improved to 2:01.44 in the 200-yard breast at the AT&T Winter Championships.

2015-16 Junior Season:
Tallied 15 top-five finishes during the regular season - At the 2016 Big Ten Championships, Hatanaka finished 20th in both the 100 breast and 200 breast and 53rd in the 200 IM.

2014-15 Sophomore Season: At the 2015 Big Ten Conference Championships, Hatanaka finished 21st in the 100 breast, 23rd in the 200 breast and 52nd in the 200 IM (2/25-2/28) - Placed 6th in the 200 free and 18th in the 100 fly at the 2015 Minnesota Challenge (2/7) - Took 4th in the 200 IM, 5th in the 200 breast and 7th in the 100 breast against Northwestern and Purdue (1/30-1/31) - Placed 3rd in the 100 breast and 2nd in the 200 breast at Hawaii (1/7) - At the 2014 Jean K. Freeman Invite, Hatanaka finished 2nd in the 400 IM, 4th in the 200 IM, 8th in the 200 fly and 26th in the 100 fly (12/5-12/6) - During the 2014 Arena Grand Prix at Minneapolis, Hatanaka took home 15th in the 200 breast, 18th in the 100 breast and 30th in the 200 IM (11/20-11/22) - Placed 5th in the 200 breast, 6th in the 100 breast and 8th in the 100 fly at Florida (11/8) - Finished 4th in the 200 breast and 5th in the 100 breast against Iowa (10/31) - Took 2nd in the 50 breast vs. North Dakota (10/24) - Placed 4th in the 100 breast and 5th in the 200 breast against Wisconsin (10/17) - Finished 3rd in the 100 breast and 4th in the 200 breast at Arizona State (10/4).

2013-14 Freshman Season:
First-year letterwinner - Relay member for the Gophers at the 2014 NCAA Championships - Placed 21st in the 200 breast (1:58.91) and completed the 100 breast with a time of 55.11 at the Big Ten Conference Championships (02/28-03/01)- Placed 17th in the 100 free (47.92) and 18th in the 100 fly (53.31) at the Minnesota Challenge (02/08)- Completed the 200 breast with a time of 2:03.84, and placed 5th in the 100 breast (57.00) vs. Purdue and Wisconsin-Madison (01/31-02/01)- Placed 1st in the 200 breast (2:02.56) and 3rd in the 100 breast (56.06) vs. NC State (01/21)- Placed 9th in the 100 fly (50.77), placed 7th in the 100 free (46.72), and placed 4th in the 200 IM (1:56.21) at the Jean Freeman Invitational (12/06-12/07)- Placed 6th in the 200 IM (1:54.96), placed 6th in the 200 breast (2:00.60), and placed 10th in the 100 breast (55.30) at the Minnesota Grand Prix (11/14-11/16)- Placed 1st in the 200 breast (2:04.27) and 1st in the 100 breast (56.97) vs. North Dakota (11/09)- Placed 3rd in the 200 breast (2:01.94) and 3rd in the 100 breast (55.87) vs. Iowa (11/01)- Placed 1st in the 100 breast (56.85) and placed 2nd in the 200 breast (2:04.02) vs. Wisconsin (10/18-10/19)- Placed 12th in the 400 IM (4:10.47), 3rd in the 200 breast (2:04.15), and placed 2nd in the 100 breast (56.61) vs. Florida (10/12)- Placed 1st in the 200 breast (2:03.52) and 2nd in the 100 breast (56.79) vs. Arizona State (10/05).

High School:
Graduate of Loveland High School (2013) - graduated with 4.0 GPA - member of the National Honors Society - swam for high school team under instruction of Jim Nickell - Colorado State High School Division 5A Record Holder in 100 Breast - took 3rd place at the 2012 USA Swimming Junior National Championships in 200 Breast - 2012 US Olympic Trials Qualifier in the 100 and 200 Breast - All-Conference Honors from 2010 to 2013 - All-Area honors from 2010 to 2013 - All-American from 2012 to 2013 - member of the Loveland Swim Club - entering freshman season with short course times of 54.68 in the 100 breast and 1:59.89 in the 200 breast - recorded long course time of 1:03.47 in 100 breast and 2:15.82 in 200 breast - two-time state champion in 100 breast.

Personal: Born March 2, 1995 - son to Steve and Lori Hatanaka - has two siblings, Brandon and Kelly - majoring in finance and entreprenurial management - older brother Brandon swam for the Gophers from 2011-2015 - enjoys playing basketball and volleyball - his favorite sport memory was making two Olympic Trials cuts at the Indianapolis Grand Prix.
