2015-16 Freshman Season: First-year letterwinner • competed in four relays for Minnesota at the 2016 NCAA Championships • at the 2016 Big Ten Championships, Avestruz earned six top-12 finishes including: 2nd in the 200 medley relay, 4th in the 400 medley relay, 5th in the 200 free relay, 10th in the 50 free, 11th in the 100 back, 12th in the 100 free • Recorded 14 1st-place finishes in dual meets • advanced to finals in the 50-meter free, 100 back and 100 free at the Arena Pro Swim Series at Minneapolis • Avestruz swept her events in the Gophers’ win at Iowa • made her collegiate debut in Minnesota’s win at Florida State with wins in the 100 back and 200 medley relay, and 2nd in the 100 free.

Personal: Daughter of Tressa and Alex Avestruz • has four siblings: Anthony, Antonio, Zaria and Xander • enjoys reading (Lord of the Rings series), baking cupcakes and watching TV shows • taught herself to play the guitar, piano and bass – currently teaching herself to play the violin • plans to major in chemistry or biology with a minor in psychology.
