MEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING PLACES 15TH AT NCAAS

UniversityThe 10th-ranked University of Minnesota men1s swimming and diving team placed 15th with 112 points at the NCAA Championships held at the Indianapolis Natatorium in Indianapolis, Ind. Auburn University won the championship with 467.5 points, Stanford was second with 414.5 points, Texas placed third with 356.5 points, California was fourth with 300.5 and Arizona was fifth with 296 points.

Junior Yoav Meiri placed ninth in the consolation finals of the 200 fly with a career-best time of 1:45.78. Freshman Dov Malnik finished 12th in the consolation final of the 200 breast with a time of 1:59.85. Also placing in the consolation final was the 400 free relay team of Massura, senior John Cahoy, senior Luis Lopez and freshman Ricardo Dornelas. The team placed 15th with a time of 2:57.23.

Sophomore Dan Croaston placed 10th earlier in the day in the platform diving competition with 482.35 points.

Massura did not make the finals in the 200 back. He finished 32nd overall with a time of 1:49.57. Also not advancing to the finals was Lopez in the 100 free, he placed 32nd with a time of 44.62. Cahoy placed 35th in the 100 free in 44.84, junior Brandon Schindler placed 56th in the 100 free in 45.63 and Dornelas placed 58th in the event with a time of 47.11.

Junior Oscar Godoi did not advance to the finals in the 200 breaststroke. Godoi placed 30th overall with a time of 2:08.10. Senior Jono McLeod fell out of further contention in the 200 fly, when he placed 30th with a time of 1:49.22.
