MINNESOTA CAPTURES TWO TITLES AT 1999 DRAKE RELAYS

Sophomore Jason Owen took third place in the men's invitational mile with a time of 4:05.84. It was also a career-high for him. Record holder and olympian Paul McMullen took second place with a time of 4:04.6 and winning the event with a time of 4:00.59 was Mark Hauser of HPI.
The sprint medley relay team of Steve Burkholder, Andy Wiberg, Bob Quade and Toby Henkels took sixth place with a time of 3:22.01.
Sophomore Steve Burkholder took fifth place in the 100m dash with a time of 10.72.
The Golden Gophers will host the Minnesota Classic at the Bierman Track Stadium on Saturday, May 1, while part of the squad will head to Iowa City to compete in a dual meet against the Iowa Hawkeyes.
MINNESOTA'S JOHNSON TAKES THIRD IN THE 10,000 AT THE PENN RELAYS
Senior Chad Johnson took a third-place finish in the 10,000m run at the 105th annual Penn Relays with an NCAA provisional qualifyining time of 29.11.1. That time was one second off of an NCAA automatic qualifying mark of 29.10. Assistant Track Coach Steve Plasencia finished 11th in the 5,000m run with a time of 14:05.
