MASSURA AND CAHOY NAMED MOST VALUABLE AT SWIMMING BANQUET

Cahoy, a native of Hudson, Wis., is a multi-All- American and Big Ten Champion at Minnesota. This past year, Cahoy was a member of the 800 free relay team that placed seventh overall at the NCAA Championships, earning All-America honors. He was also a part of four Big Ten Championship relay teams.
Massura, originally from Belo Horizonte, Brazil, has earned two first-team All-America honors in his two seasons at Minnesota. This past year he placed fourth in the 100 back at the NCAA Championships to earn All- America honors as well as being a member of the 800 free relay team that placed seventh. He was also a member of three Big Ten Championship relay teams as well as winning the Big Ten title in the 100 back. Along with those honors, Massura was named co-Big Ten Swimmer of the Year.
Also recognized at the banquet for the hardest worker award was Cahoy along with junior Brian Howard. Freshmen Ben Bartell, Chris Forrest, Brian Porter and sophomore diver Dan Croaston all received the most improved award.
Senior Luis Lopez received the prestigious Jerry McCaul Memorial Award, awarded to the outstanding swimmer or diver who best exemplifies the late Jerry McCaul's (1957-79) enthusiasm and dedication to the sport. Lopez has been a member of several Big Ten Championship relay teams and was a member of the 400 free Big Ten Champion relay team. He has also earned several honorable mention All-America honors.
Eight student-athletes with a GPA of 3.5 or higher received the outstanding student-athlete award. Those athletes include: John Cahoy, Martin Zielinski, Jeff Miller, Shane Hillsley, Jono McLeod, Dov Malnik, Brian Howard and Marc-Philippe Piche.
