MANKAD ADVANCES TO SEMIFINALS OF BIG TEN SINGLES CHAMPIONSHIPS

MiUniversity of Minnesota freshman Harsh Mankad advanced to the semifinal round of the Big Ten Singles Championships this afternoon in East Lansing, Mich. Mankad will play No. 1-seeded Tyler Cleveland of Iowa tomorrow morning.
Mankad, the 15th seed, defeated John Long of Michigan 6-2, 6-4 in the quarterfinals this afternoon. Also competing for Minnesota in the quarterfinals was senior Martin Michalowski.k Michalowski lost to Illinois' Royce Ramey, the 14th seed.
In the consolation bracket, junior Jorge Duenas won four matches to advance to the semifinals. He defeated Jimmy McGwire of Michigan State 6-2, 6-1 in the first round. He then went on to beat Jeff Martini of Penn State 6-3, 6-3 and David Chang of Wisconsin 6-3, 6-4. In his fourth match, Duenas defeated George McGill of Indiana 6-1, 6-4 to advance to the semifinals. He will play Milan Rakvica of Indiana tomorrow afternoon.
