MANKAD AND HAUG REACH SEMIFINALS AT ITA REGION IV CHAMPIONSHIPS

Mankad, the tournament's top seed, defeated ninth-seeded Chris Porter of Ohio State, 6-2, 7-5, in the quarterfinals on Sunday. Haug, seeded 10th, advanced to the semifinals with a 5-7, 6-4, 6-4, defeat of No. 16 Phil Metz of Ohio State.
Also competing in the tournament, Jorge Duenas advanced to the third round before being defeated by No. 4 Danny Westerman of Wisconsin, 6-1, 7-5. Eric Robertson advanced to the third round, but was eliminated by Metz of Ohio State, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4. Tyson Parry was also eliminated in the third round by Henry Beam, Jr., of Michigan, 7-5, 5-7, 6-1. Freshman Chris Wettengel nearly upset No. 15 Phil Stolt of Illinois in the second round, but was defeated 6-7 (5), 7-6 (5), 6-7 (3).
In doubles competition, the team of Parry and Jon Svensson upset the tournament's top-seeded duo of Talarico and Taborga of Notre Dame, 9-8 (8), in the second round. The pair advanced to the semifinals before being eliminated by No. 7 Calkins and Parker of Illinois, 8-6.
Mankad and Duenas, seeded ninth, advanced to the third round, but were eliminated by No. 4 Stolt and Wilson of Illinois, 8-4. Haug and Wettengel also advanced to the third round, but were defeated by Smiley and Jordan of Indiana, 8-6.
