GOLDEN GOPHER MEN PLACE THIRD AT BIG TEN INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS

Sophomore Andrew McKessock won his first Big Ten title in the mile run with a time of 4:11.08 to lead the Golden Gophers to a third-place finish, scoring 82 points, at the 2000 Big Ten Indoor Championships. Wisconsin won the team title, scoring 150 points and Illinois placed third, scoring 82.5 points.
Junior Tom Gerding was the other individual titlest for the Golden Gophers. He won his first-ever indoor title when he won the 600m dash with a time of 1:18.20, which was also his best time of the year.
The distance medley relay team won their first-ever title when they ran a time of 9:50.14. All in all, the Golden Gophers won three Big Ten Titles this weekend.
Sophomore Lyndon McDowell placed second in the heptathlon, scoring 5,582 points. Teammates Jayme Pantekoek and Jesse Madsen placed fourth and sixth, respectively, scoring 5,163 points and 4,920 points.
Junior Marc Johannsen placed fifth in the high jump with a jump of 6-10 3/4.
In the pole vault, Steve Slattery placed fifth with a vault of 16-6 3/4 and teammate Linus Lindroth placed seventh with a vault of 16-6 3/4.
Freshman Chris Dixon placed eighth in the triple jump with a jump of 48-2.
The Golden Gophers will compete in the NCAA Qualifying Meet held at Iowa State on Friday, March 3.
