MINNESOTA BOWS OUT IN STYLE AT DRAKE RELAYS

fiThe University of Minnesota men's track and field team finished in the top three in four events to conclude its competition at the Drake Relays Saturday in Des Moines, Iowa.

Junior Tom Gerding finished second in the men's special 400m dash finals at 45.86 P and the 4x100m relay team of Matt Taylor, Steve Burkholder, Adam Freed, and Gerding garnered second place honors as well with a time of 40.20 P in the 4x100m relay finals.

Junior Marc Johannsen, who was unable to retain his Drake Relays high jump title, placed third in the high jump finals with a leap of 6- 11 (2.11m). Also, placing third for the Golden Gophers was the team of Taylor, Burkholder, Bob Quade, and Toby Henkels who rounded out the top three in the sprint medley relay finals with a time of 3:19.05.

Other notable finishes included Jason Owen, Nathan Clay, Andrew McKessock, and Eric Pierce placing fourth in the 4x1,600m relay finals (16:31.68) and Mark Fahey placing sixth in the discus with a throw of 182-10 (55.72m).
