MINNESOTA'S ERIC PIERCE WINS STEEPLECHASE AT 2000 HAYWARD RELAYS

Eric Pierce won the 3,000m steeplechase with a winning time of 8:56.38. It was his first win in the event this season. Pierce is the defending Big Ten Outdoor champion in the 3,000m steeplechase.

Head Cross Country coach and assistant track coach Steve Plasencia placed second in the 5,000m run with a time of 14:13.25. Sophomore Joey Corr placed seventh in the event with a time of 14:29.23. Teammates Jeremy Polson and Scott Utne placed 14th and 21st respectively, with times of 14:38.44 and 15:05.67.

Minnesota's 4 x 800 relay team placed third with a time of 7:29.45 and Minnesota's distance medley team placed third with a time of 9:52.74, the best time of the season.

Junior Mark Fahey placed sixth in the discus throw with a throw of 175-10 (53.60m) and had a throw of 53.40m in the hammer throw to place eighth. Junior Ben Meyer placed fourth in the event and senior Jude Wimberger placed 11th.

The Golden Gophers will send some of the squad to the Sun Angel Invitational, which is held in Tempe, Ariz., on April 15, while the decathletes will head to Walnut, Calif., to compete in the Mt. Sac Decathlon on April 13-15.
