PIERCE FINISHES 8TH IN 3,000M STEEPLECHASE PRELIMS
5/30/2000 12:00:00 AM | Men's Track & Field
The Golden Gophers still have two events remaining, both on Thursday. Junior Tom Gerding will run in the 400m semifinals, and sophomore Andrew McKeesock will race in the 1,500m semifinals. Gerding set a school record in the 400m earlier this year at the Drake Relays. His time of 45.86 ousted the old record of 45.94, which he also set earlier this year. McKessock is Minnesota's only automatic qualifier. His qualifying time of 3:41.39 came at the Stanford Invitational earlier this month. It is the second fastest time in Golden Gopher history, placing McKessock one above Assistant Coach Steve Plasencia's mark of 3:41.06. This is McKessock's first NCAA championship competition.
