MCKESSOCK SETS OUTDOOR BEST, QUALIFIES FOR NCAAs

Sophomore Andrew McKessock set an outdoor best in the 1,500m relay Friday at the Stanford Cardinal Invitational as his time of 3:41.39 automatically qualified him for the NCAA Outdoor Championships to be held May 30-June 4 in Raleigh- Durham, N.C.

This year will mark McKessock's first appearance at the NCAAs as his time now places him second on Minnesota's all-time charts surpassing Golden Gopher Assistant Coach Steve Plasencia's mark of 3:41.6 which was set in 1977.

Also setting a personal best at the Stanford Invitational was senior Eric Pierce who posted a provisional time of 8:44.33 in the 3,000m Steeplechase. His time passed his own season best of 8:53.04 set earlier this year as it now ranks fifth on the all-time list bettering Rick Obleman's time of 8:45.12 set in 1998.
