STIER NAMED TO ALL-SCHOLAR GOLF TEAM

The NGCA recognizes student-athletes who are outstanding in both academics and competitive golf at the collegiate level. To be nominated, the student-athlete must be at least a sophomore academically and meet certain criteria, including maintaining a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.4, playing in at least 66 percent of the team's competitions during the year, and being of high moral character and in good standing in school.
Stier, a native of Belle Plaine, Minn., is an accounting major with a 3.41 GPA. She played in all 11 of Minnesota's tournaments during the 1999-2000 season. Stier tied for first place at the Minnesota Invitational in September but lost medalist honors to Eastern Michigan's Stephanie Smoot after six playoff holes. She set personal-bests for 18-hole score with 73 and three- round score with 226 at the Minnesota Invitational. During the fall season, she had a stroke average of 79.0 and finished the year with an 80.0 average.
