MANKAD AND HAUG ADVANCE AT REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

Harsh Mankad, seeded third in the tournament, defeated Iowa's Jake Wilson, 6-2, 6-3, to advance into tomorrow's third round. Mankad received a first-round bye. Fellow junior Thomas Haug, the tournament's defending champion, defeated Ohio State's Paul Workentin, 7-5, 7-5, to also advance into the third round.
Freshman Avery Ticer won his opening match, but was defeated by No. 13 seed Javier Taborga of Notre Dame in the second round, 1-6, 4-6. Reven Stephens, a transfer from Kentucky, was ousted in the second round by No. 16 Michael Calkins of Illinois, 4-6, 5-7. Sophomore Chris Wettengel was defeated by Michigan State's Andrew Formanczyk, 0-6, 6-7 (4). Eric Robertson was eliminated in the first round.
The doubles team of Manuel Lievano and Avery Ticer advanced to the second round with an 8-2 win over IUPUI's Rachon/Breneman. Thomas Haug and Rever Stephens received a first-round bye.
The championships continue through Monday.
