MINNESOTA SWIMMERS AND DIVERS DOMINATE MINNESOTA INVITE

InvitThe University of Minnesota men's swimming and diving team leads the Minnesota Invitational with 854 points after the second day of competition, 256.5 points ahead of second place Wisconsin. The Invitational will conclude Sunday at 10 a.m. with the 1650 freestyle at the Aquatic Center.

The 800-yard freestyle relay team of Terry Silkaitis, Todd Smolinski, Justin Mortimer and Matt Taylor improved their nation's best time to 6:41.62, winning the event Saturday night.

Mortimer and Smolinski were also individual champions claiming the 200- yard freestyle (1:39.69) and 100-yard backstroke (49.13), respectively.

Senior Chad Krastins finished second in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 48.78, while sophomore David Heraly also placed second in the 1-meter diving competition scoring 285.85.
