BAUM AND HEHN GUIDE GOPHERS IN QUAD DUAL SPLIT

CarThe Minnesota women's swimming and diving team completed quad dual action today at the University Aquatic Center, beating Michigan 201 to 169 but falling short to North Carolina 217 to 153. North Carolina beat Michigan 220 to 148.

Dana Baum, a junior from Carson City, Nev., directed the Gophers by taking second place in the 500-yard freestyle with a NCAA provisional qualifying time of 4:54.56. Baum also placed second in the 100 freestyle, swimming 52.03 seconds. Junior Keri Hehn swam a second place time of 2:17.84 in the 200 breaststroke, and improved on her already NCAA provisional qualifying time in the event. Baum and Hehn were also part of the 400 freestyle relay along with first-year athlete Paige Gilgan and senior Jinny Smedstad that placed first in the event (3:29.16).

The diving team completed a successful weekend by taking first and second in the 1-meter diving competition. Sophomore Shannon Jackson and junior Kim Bahmer scored 261.65 and 253.40 to place first and second, respectively.

The Gophers travel to Evanston, Ill. to face Northwestern in their first away dual meet of the season on Saturday, Nov. 10 at 2 p.m.
