BAUM EARNS WIN, CAREER BEST AT GEORGIA INVITATIONAL

BaumDana Baum led Minnesota to a seventh place start with 128 points after the first day of competition at the Georgia Invitational in Athens, Ga.

Baum, a junior from Carson City, Nev., swam a career best time of 4:47.81 to win the 500 freestyle event at the Georgia Invitational. Baum's time is the second best 500 freestyle time in Minnesota school history. Baum also anchored the 400 medley relay team that also included junior Keri Hehn and sophomores Megan Moore Sarah Bohlsen. The squad swam an NCAA qualifying time of 3:45.32.

The 200 freestyle relay team of Baum, first-year athlete Sarah Solfelt and seniors Jinny Smedstad and Jenny Power won the consolation final to place ninth with a season best time of 1:35.02. Power also swam a career best time of 23.70 in the 50 freestyle to place 13th.

Senior Kristin Rygg and first-year athlete Paige Gilgan swam season best times in the 500 freestyle to place ninth (4:56.06) and 12th (4:57.70), respectively.

Junior diver Kim Bahmer placed eighth in the one-meter diving competition with a point total of 210.70.

The Georgia Invitational continues on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 1-2.
