POTTER NAMED TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

inUniversity of Minnesota freshman sprinter Mitch Potter was named the Big Ten Athlete of the week for track and field today. Potter took first place in the 400m dash in record fashion at the Sea Ray Relays at the University of Tennessee this weekend. Potter set a new school record and automatically qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships with his time of 45.40.
Potter is the first Minnesota athlete to be awarded the honor in the 2001 outdoor track season. Senior Tom Gerding received the honor during the indoor season.
The Golden Gophers will continue the outdoor season this weekend at the Texas Team meet in Austin, Texas on Friday and Saturday and at the Carleton Relays on Saturday.
